The Virginia Board of Nursing is the regulatory body that maintains the Nurse Aide Registry in Virginia. It is responsible for administering the Nurse Aide Training Program, and it regulates and maintains the Nurse Aide Registry. The Nurse Aide Registry is a list of all the Nurse Aides who have been trained and tested through the state. All Nurse Aide Registry applicants must pass the competency exam administered by Pearson Vue.
CNA License Requirements in Virginia
In order to become a certified nurse aide in Virginia, you must complete an approved 120-hour training program and pass the certification exam. After completing an accredited training program, you can apply to take the certification exam through the Pearson Vue. The exam consists of two parts: a written portion and a skills demonstration. Once you have passed both portions of the exam, you will be eligible to work as a certified nurse aide in Virginia.

If you are looking to verify a CNA license in Virginia, there is an online option that is available. The Virginia Department of Health maintains an online registry of nursing assistants that is searchable by name or certification number. In order to use the registry, you will need to know at least one of those pieces of information.
How to Renew CNA License In Virginia?
In Virginia, a CNA license must be renewed every two years. In order to renew your CNA license, you must complete 8 hours of paid service within the last certification period. Virginia offers an online process for renewing CNA credentials. You will need to have your username and password or PIN on record.
Reinstatement CNA License in Virginia
If you are a CNA in Virginia and failed to renew your license before it expired, you will need to retake and pass the certification exam in order to be re-licensed. The application for reinstatement must be mailed with a $30 non-refundable fee to the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Transferring a Out of State CNA License to Virginia
If you are a nurse aide in another state, you may be able to transfer your certification to Virginia by endorsement. To be eligible for endorsement, you must meet certain requirements, including:
- Be currently certified as a CNA in another state
- Have no disciplinary actions against your professional nursing license
If you meet these requirements, you can apply for endorsement by submitting the appropriate paperwork to the Virginia Board of Nursing. Your application will be reviewed and, if approved, your CNA certification will be transferred to Virginia. If you are already registered with the Virginia Nurse Aide Registry, you will need to apply for reinstatement.
