Getting CNA certification in California is not a very difficult task if you work hard to earn your license.

This is a financially rewarding career considering the amount of time and money that is invested in the training part. You should expect to earn more after you gain experience.

Once you get your license, you have to renew it after some time otherwise it will relapse and you will have to take your CNA certification exam again.

How to achieve CNA certification in California

The CNA aspirants need to search for training programs that offer this course.

Prior to doing your course, some schools might conduct an entrance test to check if you can read and write in English and can solve simple sums of Mathematics. You should not have any criminal record.

Before you enroll for a training program, check if the program is accredited by the state. You will get the list of such programs in one of the government sites.

These courses are offered at various hospice care facilities, schools, and colleges; the Red Cross and community colleges also offer this course. You can enroll for regular classes or apply for a training program online.

After the completion of the course, you will have to pass an exam that will be conducted by your college. You will have to clear this exam with at least 60 percent marks and then take the certification exam.

After you clear your certification exam, you will be eligible to apply for a job as a certified nursing assistant. If you fail in your first attempt, you will get a chance to clear it in two more attempts, failing which, you will have to retake the training and the exam.

After you complete your training, you can take the test within one year of completion of the training.

In order to get CNA certification in California, you need to undergo a training program that is state approved, and in which you will get 60 hours of classroom training and 100 hours of clinical training or on-the-job training.

You should also have worked for people with mental or developmental problems, which can include Alzheimers disease, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, dementia and other mental illness.

In order to get your CNA certificate, you should take your certification exam and pass it. After you pass the exam, you need get your criminal record clearance.

You will be asked to submit your fingerprints to get your criminal background clearance. The candidates should be at least 18 years of age; those who are below 18, need to have the consent of their parent. Employers usually prefer candidates who are 18 years and above.

Cost of CNA training program in California

Although the cost of most of the CNA programs are somewhere around $500 to $1000, some can go up to as much as $1900.

If you opt for online programs, they would be much cheaper as compared to regular programs. However, both of them should provide hands on training experience to candidates and should have the approval of the state; otherwise you would not be allowed to sit for your certification exam.

The duration of most of these courses are 90 days. When you opt for courses that have lesser rates, then you must check if the charges are inclusive of the supplies and if they have any other costs involved.

Financial assistance is offered to students who cannot afford to pay the course fees. Various sponsors pay their fees, and the candidates have to work for those sponsors after attaining their license.

If you want to opt for a free training program, then you have to work as a trainee in a hospice care facility that offers this course.

They will also provide you supplies like scrubs and uniform. The organization will ask you to work for them for a specific period of time and you will have to agree to the terms and conditions mentioned by them.

Renewal of CNA certification in California

After you get your certification, it will be valid for a period of two years. If you want to have this certification renewed, you should have worked for at least 48 hours of in-service training.

You can complete half of this training online and the rest can be provided by your employer. However, after you successfully complete the course, do not forget to take your certificate.

If you do not renew your license, you will have to take your certification again and go through the program all over again. You need not pay any fee for renewal of your license, unlike the CNA certification in Arkansas.
