Wisconsin CNA License Eligibility

Wisconsin has two types of eligibility for CNAs: One is federal, the other is state. A nurse aides with a CNA license with federal eligibility can work in federally certified care facilities such as long-term care facilities and rehabilitation centers. And a nurse aide with a CNA license with state eligibility can work in state-licensed facilities. such as nursing homes, hospitals and psychiatric facilities.

When nurse aides are registered under the federal eligibility program, they also have state eligibility. Federal license needs to renew every two years, while state license don’t expire.

Thus, even if a certified nursing assistant fails to update her state eligibility, she can still work as a nurse aides via her state eligibility, but her work will only be state-licensed facilities and state-licensed only facilities and agencies.
