Transferring a Out of State CNA License to West Virginia

In order to transfer a CNA license from another state to West Virginia, the applicant must be currently licensed and in good standing in their previous state. The process of transferring a CNA license is known as reciprocity, and the (OHFLAC) Office of Health Facilities Licensure and Certification (West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources) oversees all licensing transfers.

In order to initiate the reciprocity process, the applicant must complete an application and provide verification of licensure from their previous state. Additionally, the applicant must provide evidence of completed competency or certification requirements. If approved, the OHFLAC will issue a temporary permit which allows the nurse to work while the permanent license is being processed.
