Procedure for Applying for State Certification Exam

Once you are done with the CNA course in Idaho, you can qualify for a license following the successful completion of certification exam.

This certification exam costs around $30. It includes a written test section and clinical skills evaluation test section.

The written test tests your nursing related knowledge, which generally includes solving 60-70 multiple choice questions, and can also be taken in the form of viva.

The skills exam tests the performance of the candidate for any 5 randomly selected skills. A list of such skills is mentioned on the site.

Both these tests must be successfully passed to ensure your employment as a nursing assistant in the state.

Once you successfully pass the exam, you will get licensed by the Nurse Aide Registry.

This license will ensure that you possess the rights to work in the local hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation center, old age homes & other related institutions in Idaho.

A candidate can apply for this exam thrice. If he/she fails to pass this exam in his/her third attempt, then he/she will be required to undergo a CNA course once again.

Candidates must renew their licenses once after a gap of every 2 years. This renewal service is free of cost.

To be eligible for renewal, the candidate will be required to have paid employment experience for the past 2 years, and if he/she fails to meet this requirement, he or she will be required to retake both, the Idaho CNA course and state certification exam.

Idaho CNA Reciprocity

If you want to apply for license transfer/reciprocity in the state, then you must contact the Nurse Aide Registry for the reciprocity form.

The following cases must be met in order to get transferred to the State of Idaho:

  • Valid certificate from the State where the candidate is currently under employment
  • Good standing status with the state
  • Good reputation and clean criminal background

After verifying these and other related documents, you will be informed about the status of your reciprocity. Once you succeed in meeting all these requirements, you will eventually become eligible to work anywhere in the state. This will mean that you are certified by both the State of Idaho as well as your home state.
