CNA Training in Michigan

In Michigan, there is a lot of scope for the students who want to make a long-term career in nursing industry. There is a predicted increase in the demand for nursing aides or nursing assistants in various long-term care centers, nursing homes, hospitals, clinical settings, mental care centers, etc., across the state. This is one of the topmost states in need of CNAs. Certified nursing assistants are the front line health care experts who are considered as the fundamentals of nursing. CNA programs are offered through many high schools, vocational technical schools, community colleges, nursing homes, medical institutions, long-term care centers and also through the local Red Cross Chapter. Such training programs serve to prepare the candidates for working professionally as nursing aides. This renders all the technical and practical knowledge of nursing to the students. This knowledge helps them to further pursue nursing practice or to continue education.

The CNA training is totally administered by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), under the Bureau of Health Professions. This entity is responsible for approval of the programs and is contracted with the prometric services. The prometric services develop and administer the exam for certified nursing assistant.

CNA Exam

The state exam for certified nurse aide is managed by a company of prometric services. The exam is conducted in 2 sections – written test and clinical skill test. The written test asks 60 multiple choice questions based on the theory syllabus and the practical test asks the students to perform 5 clinical skills in given time. Out of the 5 skills, 2 are mandatory – hand washing and indirect care. Other 3 tasks are randomly selected and assigned by the examiners. It is a must to pass in both the tests separately in order to get certificate by the state. Once certified, the candidate is eligible to apply for CNA license.

CNA license

The certificate and license of the nursing assistants are not permanent, but have to be verified and renewed at every regular interval of 2 years. The verification and renewal of the license follows a legal procedure and has certain requirements. The licensed candidates get their license number which signifies their ability to work professionally as certified nursing assistants across the country. It indicates that the respective candidate possesses the talent and skills required for a prospective CNA. The license allows the nursing assistants to continue nursing practice only within the state and not in any other state. If in case; any CNA from the other states wishes to shift to Michigan for job, then the license and credentials can be transferred by reciprocity agreement.

Free CNA Training

Many federal and private nursing educational institutions offer free CNA classes. They get an agreement signed by the students that they would work for the same facility right after their graduation, for a specific time span and without pay. This kind of system is rather beneficial for the facility as well as the students. The students can take nursing education free of cost and the facility gets qualified and skilled nursing professionals without having to pay them. At times, some facilities also offer to pay for the continuing or higher education of worthy candidates who cannot afford to pay for the fees of the classes.
