CNA Training in Nebraska

CNA Training in Nebraska

If one is thinking of embarking upon a new career for long-term, then becoming a nursing professional is a good option. It is a good paying job and gives satisfaction of mind. In nursing industry, there is a ladder that a nursing professional should go through. The very first step of this ladder is CNA. Certified nursing assistant is an individual who serves for the basic and direct patient care along with assisting the registered nurses (RNs) and the doctors at various medical and health care settings.

The job of a certified nursing assistant is very fundamental and responsible; and thus, requires a lot of dedication, compassion, skills, talent along with a strong will to serve for the disables. Those who are above 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or an equivalent GED test passing proof and able to read, write and understand English can enroll in the formal CNA training program in order to become successful certified nursing assistant.

Overview of CNA Training

In Nebraska, there are many schools, facilities, community colleges, nursing homes and medical institutions that offer CNA programs. One should go for a broad search for choosing the best school or facility for taking the classes for certified nursing assistant. Certified nursing assistants are called ‘certified nurse aides’ and they are managed by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). An approved program for certified nursing aide lasts for minimum 75 hours which are divided into 2 sections. First section is of technical classroom instruction and the second section is of clinical hands-on skills practice.

In-class lectures, interactive sessions and discussions covering all the theoretical or technical aspects of nursing last for about 59 hours. Next 16 hours must be spent in clinical live setting such as a nursing home or a clinic. This section is totally under the supervised condition and the students are guided by the senior registered nurses at the respective setting.

CNA Exam

When the students complete a 75 hour course program, they become eligible for taking the state approved CNA exam. Passing in this exam takes them to the certification and listing on the state’s nurse aide registry. The exam is taken in 2 parts which are technical test and clinical skills test. The technical test involves solving 50 multiple choice questions based on the theory syllabus; while the clinical skills test involves performing any 6 randomly chosen clinical tasks under strict supervision of the registered nurses. They have a keen eye on the students for the evaluation of their competency in skills and protocols. The students must obtain the score of 70% in the competency tests. Passing in the state exam proves good competency level of the candidate and thus, the candidate gets certified as a nursing aide. It enables them to apply for the CNA license.

Once certified, the state’s nurse aide registry lists the personal and professional working information on the records. It involves active or inactive working status of the candidate. To maintain the active status, one must continue nursing practice on a paid job at any setting, for a specific period within the time span of 2 years. The license has to be renewed at a regular interval of 2 years.

Advantages of CNA Training

Most of the schools and facilities offering approved training programs also offer online training courses. This facilitates the nursing education of those students who want to take approved classes, but cannot afford to attend the in-campus classes. As compared to many other states, the CNA training programs in Nebraska are quite affordable. Trainers in the classes are very qualified and experienced; and thus, render good quality education. The online data related to the course content is available all the time for the students. The students who take classes through the approved facilities immediately get the best of job opportunities for sure.

In short, CNA training in Nebraska lasts for short time and also offers additional advantages along with good quality education. It is indeed a good option to choose taking classes in this state.
