CNA Training in Missouri

CNA Training in Missouri

The certified nursing assistants in the state of Missouri work under the supervision of licensed and registered nurses at various health care settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, private and public health care centers, long-term care centers, convalescent homes, etc. CNAs are the basic health care experts who provide with the direct patient care. If one wants to become a successful certified nursing assistant, one has to have certain basic qualities like strong desire to serve for the disables, patience, compassion, interpersonal communication skills, etc. If these qualities are accompanied by a formally recognized training, then the students are set to work at the health care and medical settings as nursing professionals.

All the aspects and issues related with nursing courses are overseen by the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). There are many CNA programs offered through various high schools, vocational technical schools, community colleges, nursing homes, medical institutions, long-term care centers, etc. The students should always search for the state approved courses from such a wide spectrum of choices. Taking the classes from accredited schools has its own advantage regarding course content, exam pattern, certification, licensing, job opportunities, etc. However, most of the courses here last for total 75 hours and thus, follow the minimum hour requirement set by the national nursing authority.

Outline of CNA Training

The CNA training programs are comprised of total 175 hours of course work and these 175 hours are divided into 2 parts viz. technical classroom instruction and practical or clinical hands on practice session. First 75 hours are for the classroom instruction session. The clinical hands-on practice has to be conducted for 100 hours at a living health care setting and under completely supervised conditions. This session can be taken as on-job training. The technical in-class session constitutes of theory lectures, group discussions, interactive sessions, practice written tests, etc. All this tends to cover the entire technical syllabus of the course. The practical session comprises of hands-on practice of clinical tasks. The students get to learn and practice all the tasks of a certified nursing assistant; and also learn certain additional skills that must be used while working at a living care center.

CNA Exam

Missouri state board of nursing conducts a written and skill competency exam for the certification of nursing assistants. The written test is based upon the theory syllabus content covered in the classroom instruction; while the clinical skill test is based upon the practical syllabus content covered in the hands-on practice session. The students have to solve 70 multiple choice questions in theory paper and perform any 5 randomly given clinical tasks within the given time. They are constantly supervised and evaluated by the senior nursing examiners as well as their course instructors. Passing in both the tests proves a good skills competency of the candidates and in turn, leads to certification as nursing aides. After certification, they become eligible to apply for the licensure by a legal procedure.

Certificate and license allow the candidates to continue nursing practice at different settings across the state of Missouri. They are not allowed to work out of the state. Those CNAs who are working in other states and wish to work in this state can transfer their previous state’s credentials and license. This process occurs through the reciprocity agreement by state.

CNA Certification Requirements

  • One must be 18 years old
  • One must produce the criminal background check proof
  • One must produce the medical and drug test proof

It is a good option to enroll in an approved CNA training in Missouri in order to become a successful certified nursing assistant. This state has so many employment opportunities open for you, once you are certified.
