Everything You Need To Know About CNA Courses in Hawaii

The State Department of Human Services approved CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) courses are offered in the State of Hawaii. Several nursing homes, community colleges, & independent facilities offer such courses, which cost around $500-$800.

Students opting for the CNA courses in Hawaii are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of training, out of which 30 hours are meant for classroom training & 70 hours are meant for clinical exercises.

Procedure for applying for State certification exam

To work as a CNA in Hawaii, you must pass the American Red Cross Nurse Aide Certification exam following the completion of Hawaii CNA classes.

This exam includes a written test & skills test. It is a 1-day exam, which can be typically completed within 5 1/2 – 6 1/2 hours. One needs to pass the skills test in order to sit for the written test.

The written test can be also given in oral format. Although results are declared on the same day, the certificates will be issued by mail within 10 operational days from the exam date.

Once you successfully pass this exam, you will be licensed under Hawaii Nurse Aide Registry.

This license will enable you to work anywhere in the State of Hawaii including clinics, local hospitals, rehabilitation centers, old age homes & other such agencies.

You must renew your CNA license every two years. For renewal, he/she will be asked for his/her employment records over the last 2 years.

Hawaii CNA Reciprocity

Candidates from the states other than Hawaii will be applicable for the transfer/reciprocity if they will meet the following conditions:

  • Active CNA certificate from the state where he/she currently works
  • Good standing position with the state
  • Clean criminal record

After the verification of these & other documents, the candidate will be informed about the status of your transfer.

CNA Salary in Hawaii

CNAs in Hawaii earn an attractive salary.
