Procedure for Applying for State Certification Exam

To gain employment as nurse aide in Florida, you will have to pass the state’s certification exam following completion of CNA course.

In case, if the candidate has not undergone a nursing assistant course, then he/she will require to be at least 18 years old or a high school diploma holder or GED holder in order to be eligible for this CNA license exam. This exam includes two sections, viz. a written section, & skills section.

This exam costs around $93 plus $87.25 for Florida Department of Law Enforcement & FBI Screening.

The written section comprises 50 multiple choice questions, for which the candidate will be required to complete it within 2 hours.

Instead of undertaking English written exam, the candidates do have an option to take either an oral or a Spanish written exam if they are not good in English reading; but it must be specified in the application form prior to test.

The candidate’s performance will be tested in five arbitrarily chosen nursing skills, which will be administered in English only.

You will get registered under Florida Nurse Aide Registry following your successful completion of the state certification exam. This will ensure that you can work anywhere in the state.

Nurse aide license renewal must be done after every two years. In an attempt to renew the CNA license, the candidate will be required to have a total of 24 hours on-the-job training experience (one hour of training per month) & to perform paid nursing associated services over the last 24 successive years.

Florida CNA Reciprocity

Transferring to the State of Florida, in order to gain employment as a nurse aide is very easy, only if the following conditions are met successfully:

  • Active CNA certificate (not lapsed/expired) from the state where the candidate currently works
  • Good standing status with the state
  • Clean criminal background (checks conducted by FBI)

Once these & other related documents are verified, you will be notified about the status of your transfer. As the growth of the health sector economy in Florida is on the rise and as there is shortage of nursing employees, there is no sign of scarcity for CNA job opportunities.

CNA Salary in Florida
