How to achieve CNA certification in Oregon
After you decide to become a nurse aide in this state, you should start looking for training programs in or around your county that have been recognized by the state.
Although the age and the qualifications are not made mandatory by the state for becoming a CNA, most of the training programs require that you should be at least 18 years old and should have your high school diploma or an equivalent GED.
Most of the employers also prefer candidates who have done their high school.

This exam has two parts, the written test and the skills. In order to clear the competency test, you will have to pass both the tests. If you fail in either one, you will have to retake that exam and also pay the fees for the exam again.
For the skills exam, you will be asked to show the procedure of five tasks given to you within the given 45 minutes.
Out these tasks, the first one will be hand washing and the rest will be listed randomly from the various skills taught to you during the training.
You should be able to complete all the tasks with 80 percent of correctness to pass this test.
For the written test, you will be asked to answer 77 multiple choice questions that you will have to complete in 90 minutes. In order to pass the written test, you should score at least 65 percent.

If you wish to get certified as a nurse aide in the state of Oregon, you should have completed a state approved program that provides you with a training of at least 75 hours of classroom and another 75 hours of training should be part of skills training or more.
You should have a certificate from your school stating that you have successfully completed your training from that school. You should submit your national criminal background check to show that you do not have any criminal background.

Cost of CNA training program in Oregon
The cost of training programs in the state starts around $650 onwards; most of the programs in the state are under $1000. If you want to check the total amount that you will have to shell out for your entire training, you will have to add the tuition fees, cost of the supplies, text books, other training materials and the exam fees.
If you do not have sufficient finances to enroll into a training program, you can contact the nearest community college.
The college authorities can guide you to look for sponsors or get financial assistance from the government. If you belong to low income group, then you might be eligible for grants.
Another way of looking at the low cost programs is to join a program that provides you with online classroom training.
You can also search for vacancies in a long term care facility. These places will accept you as a trainee and cover the entire cost of the program. You might be asked to sign a bond with them to work for a minimum period of time.
Renewal of CNA certification in Oregon
After you become a certified nursing assistant, your certification will remain valid for the next 24 months.
Six to eight weeks prior to the date from which your license expires, you will receive a reminder from Oregon State board of Nursing (OSBN) to renew your license.
In order to renew your certification as a nurse aide, you should have worked for pay for at least 400 hours (approximately three months full time) as a nurse aide. This service should not be a volunteer service otherwise it will not be counted.
If you are unable to renew your certification but fulfill the various criteria for certification, then you will have to submit a renewal form to OSBN within 60 days from the date of expiry of your certification.
You will have to pay fees for renewing your certification and also undergo national criminal background check again.
If you have CNA certification in Oklahoma or any other state of US and plan to relocate to Oregon, then you will be eligible to transfer your certification to Oregon, provided you fulfill the following criteria: the training program that you enrolled into was at par with the standards of OBRA; you should have worked for a minimum of 400 hours as a nursing assistant for pay under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse; you should not have a criminal background.
You will have to submit a copy of certificate from your school to prove that you have completed your training program and a written verification from your current state that you currently have certification there.
